grandeur integrated

March 9, 2019

Most of our energy goes into upholding our importance.

If we were capable of losing some of that importance, two extraordinary things would happen to us.

One, we would free our energy from trying to maintain the illusory idea of our grandeur.

And two, we would provide ourselves with enough energy to catch a glimpse of the actual grandeur of the Universe.

If I were in his company, I would ask Carlos “What if letting go of your importance is most important?” I doubt he would be able to answer. Then I would ask, what if you would replace the word “importance” with the word “privilege” … as in “anything you would be taking for granted”? Then, I would suggest the importance of being ever mindful … that is, taking absolutely nothing for granted. In this case, mindfulness would be most important… but not as anything one might hold on to but instead to do.

Perhaps if Carlos were to write those words today, he would have used the word privilege rather than importance. That’s what I tend to think. And, yes, “doing” something and “holding on” to something aren’t the same thing, but most folks certainly confuse the two, don’t they.
